Tour One of Finest Modern Homes in America - Lexington KY's Miller House!

One may consider Lexington KY a traditional town based on the style of homes in the area. From the Craftsmen period, the Arts & Craft, the Greek revival stately plantation mansions and traditional brick homes, that would be a fair assumption. And then smack dab in the middle of all that you are thrown a curve ball with 832 Lochmere Place in Lexington KY 40509.  Known as the renowned Miller House, this modern gem is considered by many to be one of the finest modern homes constructed in the United States.

The home was finally completed in 1992 after spending 5 years under construction. Jose Oubrerie, French architect and protégé of Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, better known as Le Corbusier (the pioneer of modern architecture) designed the home while he served as the Dean of School of Architecture at the University of Kentucky. Built for Robert Miller and his wife Penny, the family occupied the home for years. The home originally costs over 3 million to construct. Robert passed away in 2002 and Penny sold the residence in 2006 and 20 acres of land to a local developer who wanted to build a subdivision around the home. The developer soon went bankrupt due to the changing conditions in the economy and housing market and the home fell into disrepair and was vandalized. Finally a group of local architectures and enthusiasts bought it, restored it and is looking to sell to someone who will appreciate the fine qualities and uniqueness of the property.

The home is made of poured concrete construction and boast 3 levels of living space with very little compartmentalized and amazing panoramic views of the outside treed land surrounding the home. The inside offers totally privacy for the residents as each bedroom has its own bathroom, den balcony and outside entrance. There is even a basement and an elevator with access to all three levels. An abundance of metal and wood were used in the interior. The home has the feel of total openness. I always find it intriguing how an architect can create total openness and privacy all together. Seems like polar opposites but the Miller home was done in a way that only a genius architect could have archived.

Even within this blog, I still can’t really tap into the uniqueness and raw energy the Miller house boast. Google it sometime when you get a chance and learn more about it. What I can tell you is that you can own this sweet home pad. It is currently listed on the Lexington KY Real Estate market for a steal at 999,000, reduced over a million dollars from its original asking price! This landmark of a structure is sure to encompass all the space one would need with a sprawling layout of over 5,771 square feet.  If art is your fancy and you’re ready for a one of a kind home, call me and we will set up a personal tour for you.
