Snag Mark Wahlberg's Home & Keep your New Year Resoultion!
The trappings of the holiday season are gone. So is the eggnog, the chocolate Santas, the prime rib and ham buffets that followed holiday trays of high-calorie hors d’oeuvres.
What’s left, however, is the stuff of rolls and bulges that prompts millions of people to make this their top New Year’s resolution: dropping a few pounds. In order, the American Psychological Association says the top three New Year’s resolutions are to lose weight, quit smoking and exercise regularly.
Meanwhile, Time magazine also lists exercising and losing weight as one of the 10 commonly broken resolutions. The reason? People get busy — and lazy.
But, what if your gym was located down the hall or a set of stairs in your home? Take a look at some homes equipped with gyms that make it easy to stick with your New Year’s resolution.

The first step to looking like Mark Wahlberg? Working out in his home gym. As the former underwear model and star of the Academy Award-winning film, “The Fighter,” Wahlberg is known for his pumped-up physique. So it’s no surprise that the actor had an enormous, two-story workout space built into his Beverly Hills home. If pumping iron isn’t your thing, there’s also a boxing ring, a sports court, putting green and a pool. This can all be yours since Wahlberg is attempting to sell. This is the second time he’s put the Mediterranean-style estate on the market.

Big waves and big spikes. When you’re a world-class athletic couple whose entire lives revolve around big action, it makes sense that nearly the entire first floor of your house is turned into a gym. This is exactly what Laird Hamilton and Gabrielle Reece did. The surf king and his volleyball-star wife built the home in 2004 to be near the legendary “Jaws” waves off the cost of Paia on Maui. Although the 5,000-square-foot home contains the massive workout room and an enormous garage for stowing surf boards and volleyball nets, the tanned couple put the home on the Haiku real estate market in order to build another home next door. Previously listed at $2,750,000, Hamilton’s home had a reported pending sale in July and the listing was removed in September.

A home gym doesn’t necessarily mean a room full of weights and machines. It can be something much more simple and serene, like in this house which features a spacious yoga studio with gleaming hardwood floors and French doors opening up to the lawn. Originally built in 1940, the 11,280-square foot home was extensively rebuilt and restored over a three-year period and contains much of the original detailing, including eight ornate fireplaces, Japanese gardens, an arched entry way and crown moldings. The prime piece of Magnolia real estate has unobstructed views of the Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains.
