Make a Sweet Stop at Caramanda's Bake Shoppe in Lexington

Congrats to the 2020 Breeders Cup winner Authentic! The first time Breeders Cup came in Lexington back in 2015, American Pharoah was not the only winner. The official Breeders Cup cupcake was created by Caramanda’s Bake Shoppe. The local bakery entered a competition with a creation made using raspberry cake, white chocolate chips and buttercream icing. Their cupcakes were sold by the hundreds on The Hill at Keeneland during the biggest horse racing weekend of the season. But 2020 is much different than 2015 so there was no party on The Hill this year. However, Caramanda's is still baking up a storm in their Lexington locations so its always  A-ok to swing by and pick up your favorites to enjoy.

Cupcakes are a specialty at Caramanda’s which features a rotating menu of flavors and even posts a Cupcake Schedule on their website. There are eight favorites available every day including Chocolate Swirl, Coconut Cream, and Wedding Cake. About 20 more varieties are on the menu –depending on the day- and have such tempting names: Carrot Cake, Wilderness Trail Bourbon Ball, Chocolate Explosion, Lemon Drop, Birthday Bombshell and Peanut Butter Bliss.

The bakery also makes a wide variety of cookies and cakes. Specialty cakes include wedding cakes and king cakes, the latter a New Orleans tradition for Mardi Gras and Christmas. There are two locations of Caramanda’s Bake Shop. The Southland Drive location is closed on Sundays and the Richmond Rd store is open seven days a week.

Southland Drive is off Nicholasville Rd, conveniently located between the main north-south arteries of Harrodsburg and Nicholasville Roads. Residents in the area not only get to visit the bakery often, but they also have easy east-west access via Man O’ War Boulevard and downtown is just 3.5 miles away. The Richmond Rd location is near the Lakeview Shopping Center, across from the nearby KFC and Wendy's.
