Lexington's Explorium for Children Offers Up Hands-on Fun!

Those of us already living in Lexington Ky know that our town offers many events and activities for residents of all ages. If you are looking for something for you and your children to do - especially on a rainy afternoon - consider visiting the Explorium of Lexington. This amazing children’s museum is filled with all sorts of fun and creative activities for youngsters - and the young at heart.

Founded in 1987, the Explorium was one of the first in a hot trend of children’s museums that have sprouted up across the nation. Targeting children under the age of eight, the exhibits are hands-on and designed to educate while sparking curiosity. With nine discovery zones, children can explore and learn about horses, dinosaurs, American Indians, outer space, insects and more. One of the most popular areas in the 14,000-square-foot museum is the bubble room. Located on the second floor, the bubble room allows children to play with bubbles of all sizes and even stand inside a huge bubble. There is also an art studio open during the week, and art classes on most Saturdays. The Explorium is located downtown on Short Street and is open Tuesday through Sunday.
