Kentucky Basketball Team Raises 1 Million Dollars for Haiti in just 4 hours

Big Blue Nation united together yesterday to help out Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari and members of the team raise 1 million dollars in just 4 short hours during its Hoops for Haiti campaign. The money raised will go to the American Red Cross for the people of Haiti. It was a great day in Lexington community and it was truly wonderful to see the community and fans pull together during this time of need. Coach Calipari, whose Kentucky team is 18-0, told his team to be humble when things are going good. Calipari hosted the event and the Kentucky players manned the phones during the live TV telecast.

Calipari pulled together the telethon in less than two days and reached out to several Lexington community leaders and agencies for help. Celebrities including movie star and Kentucky super fan Ashley Judd, Minnesota basketball Coach Tubby Smith, and sports announcer Dick Vitale were just a few of the celebrates to donate to the cause.

You can still donate. Go to Hoops for Haiti online at www.redcrosslexky.org or at John Calipari's Web site, www.coachcal.com.

It truly was a heartwarming day here and it was amazing to see how the Lexington and Central Kentucky communities can come together in order to help our world dealing with a horrible tragedy. What a great day to be a Lexington resident and a Kentuckian!
