Formica Countertops, An Old School Lexington Home Feature!!

In the 1950's, the Lexington KY real estate market was booming. Homes were in demand and many Lexington neighborhoods formed. One of the trendiest features that was installed was the beautiful formica counterops. Kitchens all over Lexington boasted these beautiful, yet very functional countertops.

I recently showed a home in north Lexington at 618 Judy Lane and discovered an old gem - the original formica countertops. These stunning red countertops were awesome! No joke, the color was still vibrant and they were in great condition considering they are 55 years old. Read more about this special home near the site of the old Joyland Amusement Park.

I thought it was cool that the nameplate for the Lexington company that installed the formica was still prevalent on the countertops. It's like another piece of history! Lexington's Dickens Formica on Nicholasville Rd was the installer. I bet they were so busy back in the 1950's and 60's installing these countertops all across Lexington including in the new neighborhoods of Lansdowne, Chevy Chase and Kenwick.

The Dickens Formica store was located at 2413 Nicholasville Rd. Today on that site, we have a printing shop. Always cool to see how the city has changed over the years. Do you ever wonder what the site of your home looked like 50 or 100 years ago? Makes you wonder doesn't it!
