Feel Good about Moving to Lexington Ky!

Here’s another reason to feel good about moving to Lexington Ky: The International Book Project is headquartered here. A non-profit organization, IBP’s mission is to promote worldwide literacy and education. Since 1966 it has been sending books to poor countries around the world, as well as to under-served areas in the U.S. In fact, it has delivered nearly six million books to schools, libraries, churches, and Peace Corps volunteers since the project began out of the founder’s basement. Now headquartered on Delaware Avenue, IBP shipments are available in three sizes: a mailable 35-pound box that can reach remote areas, a pallet that can hold between 700 to 1,000 books, and a sea container which can hold up to 40,000 books.

IBP also has a program called Books as Bridges. One of the goals of this program is to increase literacy in the state of Kentucky. Each Kentucky classroom in the program connects with a classroom in a foreign country in order to share and learn about each other’s cultures. Assignments for the Kentucky students are based around service for their international peers. For example, they may help them by writing letters asking for clean water or medical supplies. Students also build connection and friendship by becoming pen pals.

Lexington Ky is full of many hidden treasures that will make you proud to live here. If you are planning on moving to Lexington Ky, I am eager to tell you more about this great city. Contact me to learn more.
