Big Blue Building in Lexington Kentucky!
No matter from which direction you approach Lexington Ky you are sure to notice the city’s iconic big blue building towering over the skyline. Known as the Lexington Financial Center, the 31-story glass building is the tallest one in town and can be seen for miles - even from the high hills in Berea thirty or so miles from here. With an official address of 250 West Main Street, the high-rise is located on South Mill Street between Main and Vine streets. The blue tinted glass skyscraper was completed in 1987 and is 410 feet tall. It is home to FifthThird bank and other financial institutions as well as law offices, real estate firms and insurance companies. In addition to over 350,000 square feet of office space, the structure features a fitness center and a 600-space parking garage.
For the past two years, the local Boy Scouts Association held a fundraiser focused on the building called Brave the Blue. Participants who have raised at least $1000 for the Boy Scouts are given the opportunity to rappel down the skyscraper. Last year over 100 people participated, raising more than $100,000 for the organization.
You will find that Lexington is always changing, growing and adding to its skyline. Just a block from the tower a new office plaza and hotel are being built called CentrePointe. Construction began in December and is ongoing.
