Aylesford House in Lexington KY is On University of Kentucky Campus
If you were to take a drive on Linden Walk in Lexington Ky, you would probably be surprised to see a mansion surrounded by homes half its size. This is the historic Aylesford House which has nearly 5,000 square feet, five fireplaces, and many beautiful architectural details. The two story Greek Revival manor was built in 1851 and at one time was part of a much larger property that included a race track. The brick home currently is situated on less than an acre and looks to be in excellent condition.
Originally a private home, the structure has had a colorful history. St. Joseph’s hospital was founded there in 1875 and in the 1900s it was used as a University of Kentucky fraternity house. It is now once again a private home. While this home is not currently on the market, the Aylesford neighborhood is a fabulous location if you’d like to be in an established subdivision with mature trees and historic homes. Many residences in the area are about one hundred years old.
If you lived in this subdivision, you would be able to walk downtown, to the University of Kentucky and even to Chevy Chase with the new Kroger that just opened. Woodland Park is also nearby. Homes for sale in Aylesford tend to go very quickly so also consider the nearby neighborhoods of Hollywood, Columbia Heights, Downtown, UK Campus, and Chevy Chase.
